Shawn Looker is a neurodivergent speculative-fiction writer and software engineer with more than three decades of experience building complex systems. His work with large-scale software, cloud infrastructure, and automation has shaped how he thinks about structure and consequence—and about the hidden forces that hold worlds together.
His fiction explores power, identity, family, institutions, and the complicated consequences of decisions made inside systems larger than any one person. He returns often to pressure, fracture, and resilience: the cost of holding things together when no one sees the strain, and of being blamed for the disasters one prevents.
At the heart of his writing is a belief that everyone deserves dignity, safety, and a voice, even when the world insists otherwise. His stories ask what people do when the technologies, histories, and beliefs surrounding them stop serving human needs—and what it takes to make room for something better.
Shawn earned an associate degree from Northeast State Community College and a bachelor’s degree from East Tennessee State University. He previously served as a Code for America brigade captain and taught high-school robotics.
Outside of writing and software, his interests include tabletop role-playing games, video games, theatre, music, and making things.
